Born in the corridors of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Navarra, the Silent Trio has harvested widespread critical acclaim in projects including the Charlie Haden Songbook (2016), a tribute album to the prestigious North American double bassist. The group, today a quartet, is made up of the sax player Alberto Arteta, guitarist Luis Giménez, double bassist Marcelo Escrich, and the latest arrival, Mikel Andueza, a major reference among sax players in the national Jazz scene.
Martín Leiton Quartet
Martín Leiton (double bass), Santi de la Rubia (saxophone), Toni Saigi (piano), Ramón Prats (drums)
Latin American Jazz and folklore impregnate every note issuing from Martín Leiton’s double bass. After years of experience, the musician from the Canaries settled in Barcelona continues to shore up his personal project with this, his fifth album as frontman: Caravana (2023). The quartet formed by members Santi de la Rubia, Toni Saigi, Ramón Prats and Martín Leiton himself once again reveals the extraordinary nature of their musical coming together. Taking their inspiration from the greats of the genre, such as Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter and Duke Ellington, Martín Leiton’s latest offering combines these unquestionable influences with Latin American music and Gnawa and Tuareg beats and tunes.
