“Arima” is the Basque word for soul, and this is what they are in to: soul, funk, R&B, disco and 1960s and 70s Jazz-groove, with a keen eye on the most contemporary current of these styles, Neo Soul. Arima Soul was created in 2020, in Zarautz, by DJ and bass player Makala, and Lidia Insausti, a singer with a powerful voice.

Their repertoire mainly comprises their own compositions in Basque, but also occasional numbers by artists such as Marie “Queenie” Lyons, Gil Scott-Heron, Etta James…

Combining the enormous vocal talent of young Lidia with the musical baggage of Mikel Makala, Arima Soul have, in the course of their first five years of existence, launched an EP, several singles and a studio album: Arima Soul – 1 (2022). In the spring of 2025, Arima Soul releases their second studio album, called Gaua (2025).

They have given concerts all throughout the Basque Country and many cities all over Spain, and have collaborated and continue to collaborate with well-known musicians and groups, such as Paul San Martín, Jokin Vitoria, Gorka Gaztanbide, Hilario Rodeiro, Gonzalo Encinal, Andrés Navascues, Antxon Sarasua, Martin Asarian, Lide Hernando “Bele”, The Cherry Boppers, Marc Beinages, Paco Manzanares “Mantecao”, Lalo López…
