14 Txikijazz: balance
Txikijazz brings to a close an edition to remember, establishing itself as a meeting place where quality music and family audiences come together in a natural and exciting way.
Over four days, from 23 to 26 July, between 1,000 and 2,000 people gathered each day on the terraces of the Kursaal to enjoy free concerts in an exceptional setting, characterised by sunshine, occasional breezes and, above all, a desire to share live music. This year’s programme included performances by YKO Project, Jazz for Children, The International Classic Jazz All Stars and Mississippi Queen & The Wet Dogs, as well as the concert-workshops held at the San Martín Merkatua.
Each performance had its own unique character, but they all shared a common thread: artistic excellence. YKO Project opened the series with a performance full of sensitivity and freshness; Jazz for Children once again demonstrated that jazz is a language capable of thrilling young and old alike, turning the concert into an interactive experience in which the audience became part of the show.
One of the most special moments came with The International Classic Jazz Allstars. The presence of Donosti Lindy Hop turned the morning into a true celebration of swing, bringing together a large number of dancers who filled the venue with life. The rapport between the musicians and the audience was absolute, to the point where the band repeatedly thanked those dancing in front of the stage for their energy and warmth, creating an atmosphere that will be hard to forget.
Mississippi Queen & The Wet Dogs provided the grand finale with a concert brimming with energy and festive spirit. The boundless energy and soul conveyed by their singer, Inés Goñi, had the audience quickly leaving their seats to experience the concert on their feet, dancing and enjoying every song. The music was the true star of a morning that came to an end just as the first raindrops began to fall.
Beyond the concerts, Txikijazz once again demonstrated that it is a festival where children, families and music lovers of all ages share the same space, united by respect, curiosity and a love of live music. A friendly, open and intergenerational atmosphere that has become one of the festival’s hallmarks.
