About JazzEñe
JazzEñe is a SGAE Foundation programme created to internationally showcase the Jazz produced in Spain, to encourage the participation of Jazz bands in festivals, promote international tours for members of the SGAE and foster meetings and the exchange of experiences and knowledge among professionals in the sector (artists, managers, programmers, festival directors, record companies, etc.) from here and the rest of the world.
Following its first edition, held in Madrid in 2014, the event moved to Valencia and later to Zaragoza and Málaga. Now in its 12th edition, this showcase —bringing the reality of Spanish Jazz to audiences and directors of European festivals — will take place for the sixth consecutive year at the San Sebastián Jazz Festival, which, in its 61st edition, stands as one of the leading Jazz events not only in Spain but also in Europe and worldwide.
From its inception, around 90 groups have taken part in JazzEñe, with more than 500 artists going on to perform on international stages such as the Tokyo Jazz Festival (Chicuelo & Mezquida); the White Night at the Flamenco Biënale in Amsterdam and Rotterdam (Antonio Lizana, Rycardo Moreno and Pedro el Granaíno); Jazzahead! in Bremen (Trinidad Jiménez); JazzPlus in Bulgaria and Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana (Daniel García Trio); the Jarasum Jazz Festival in Korea (Sumrrá); the Ankara CSO ADA Main Hall (Miron Rafajlovic); Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York (Daahoud Salim Quintet); and the Amersfoort International Jazz Festival.
Work sessions with professionals
One of the main objectives of the SGAE Foundation is to promote the internationalisation of its members. To this end, JazzEñe brings together programmers from Jazz festivals, Jazz fairs and Jazz halls around the world, who are interested in getting to know the reality of the genre in Spain and who are invited by the Foundation.
During the event, these professionals meet the eight groups taking part in the morning sessions, fostering connections, exchanging experiences, and encouraging agreements for collaborations, tours and the possibility of performing on international stages. To date, over five hundred Spanish artists have performed abroad thanks to this SGAE Foundation programme.
