The music of The War and Treaty is a mixture of gospel and country, with clear influences of soul, rock, bluegrass, folk and pop. Tanya and Michael Trotter Jr. make up this US duo. They met in 2010; she had been a very young actress and R&B singer, who performed with Laurin Hill and Whoopi Goldberg, but her career never really took off; he, a US army veteran, wounded in the Iraq war, where he discovered his talent for composition. As a way of seeking solace in the midst of the conflict, he would often play an abandoned piano in one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces. When he returned from that war, he suffered PTS, which led to him continuing to sing and play the piano as therapy, to help him process his feelings.

They fell in love, got married, and in 2014 created the group The War and Treaty, transforming their life experiences and traumas into inspiring songs, full of healing power and overflowing with emotion, seeking redemption and connection between people; songs that are the celebration of life and full of love and hope.

Since their creation, The War and Treaty, Tanya and Michael, with their remarkably gifted voices, have stood out for their honesty and their quest for superlative quality. They have released 5 records, have performed twice at the White House, have been nominated for awards and decorated on many occasions and have captivated audiences the world over with their marvellous concerts. They have also been curtain-raisers for artists of the stature of Rolling Stones, Zach Bryan, Al Green, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, John Legend, Lauren Daigle, Van Morrison…

Lauded for their energy on stage and their capacity to transmit deep emotions through their performance, the artistic proposal of this North American couple is based not only on musical quality, but also on a message of unity and healing through music. Their style, full of intensity and feeling, has been compared with the great exponents of soul and gospel, evoking the force of artists like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles, but with a modern focus that transcends genres and borders.
