Pete Roth Trio featuring Bill Bruford
Event held
Peter Roth (guitar), Bill Bruford (drums), Mike Prat (bass)
Pete Roth Trio featuring Bill Bruford creates Jazz for a new generation of music lovers, who are looking beyond the usual conventions of the genre. The trio comprises Mike Pratt, on bass, and the legendary Bill Bruford, on drums. Bruford, who was part of major groups such as King Crimson, YES and Earthworks, stopped performing live in 2009, and in 2024 decided to return to the stage with this magnificent trio.
The word “Jazz” implies musicians listening to and interacting with each other; people who never play the same way, who are constantly adapting to new stuff, doing so boldly and with freedom. This trio possesses those qualities in abundance, and although their origins are rooted in popular music, their compositions transcend norms and head into new terrain. A creative world that obliges us to revisit what a guitar trio is capable of doing, and in which we find great sound diversity, with original compositions, adaptations of standards and reinterpretations of classics.
Roth, with a style that evokes Bill Frisell, explores sounds, from the cleanest imaginable to the most heavily processed, without ever producing anything that sounds contrived. Pratt brings a solid base, with influences that go from funk to the most modern Jazz. And the great Bruford, sophisticated and precise, brings further richness to the sound of the trio with his unique style on drums, always at the service of composition, with a sensibility that is not only rhythmic but melodic, where expression and detail, not decibel levels, are paramount.
The three musicians show their powerful grasp of multiple genres, which they very naturally integrate into their jazzistic proposal. This group never ceases in its endeavour to break the rules of Jazz, to further enrich it with their authenticity, passion and exceptional skill.
