A native of Donostia, Itziar Mendibil is a saxophonist and composer known for her expressiveness, her great sound and her powerful melodic verve. She was, from a very young age, deeply into the Basque choral tradition, where folklore and classical music rub shoulders with no friction whatsoever. Her artistic interests later led her to move to Barcelona, where she discovered Jazz and became passionate about it.

Itziar is a strong and active player on the Catalan Jazz scene today. She leads her own quartet and her style, which could be defined as contemporary Jazz, combines a deep connection to the landscapes and sounds of her homeland with a need to explore Jazz from a more contemporary, free, point of view. Her influences include great artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Wayne Shorter, Joel Ross and Seamus Blake, among others.
